弗吉尼亚·赫尔德是美国著名的关怀伦理学家。赫尔德在分析关怀、关系、关怀人的人等概念的基础上,认为关怀伦理是一种独具特性的道德理论和方法,不可以附加或者包含在正义论、功利论和美德论之中。通过关怀伦理与正义伦理、功利伦理的对话,考虑关怀与正义、功利的融会贯通,提出关怀价值可作为普遍适用的道德,关怀关系应该成为更广泛的道德框架和一种使人满意的综合性道德理论。在此基础上,弗吉尼亚·赫尔德针对自由主义理论对关怀伦理的挑战作出了回应。
