Traffic is an important basic industry and is the precursor and guarantee for rejuvenating the old industrial base in Liaoning province. During the Tenth Five-Year-Plan period, the urban road added up to 22.63 million square meters, and buses to 7317. The province has opened more than 40 flight courses respectively to Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the DPR Korea, Southeast Asia, Western Europe, and North America. The national first electric railway for passenger transport marked the modern traffic of Liaoning. The retainable amount of private cars has reached 400000. In 2004 alone, the sales amount of auto got to 7650 million Yuan in Shenyang, about 15 times as compared with 1999. In the past five years, Liaoning built up five speedways with mileage of 705 kilometers long. Besides, the common highway reached 50000 kilometers. All the villages and towns in Liaoning had blacktop. At present, Liaoning has ten expressways, respectively the Shenyang-Shanhaiguan Expressway of 361 kilometers, the Shenyang-Dalian Expressway of 375 kilometers, the Shenyang-Siping Expressway of 160 kilometers, the Shenyang-Dandong Expressway of 222 kilometers, the Shenyang-Fushun Expressway of 13 kilometers, the Jinzhou-Chaoyang Expressway of 93 kilometers, the Jinzhou-Fuxin Expressway of 117 kilometers, the Panjin- Haicheng-Yingkou Expressway of 107 kilometers, and the Dandong-Dalian Expressway of 254 kilometers.
