In early 1985, during the training course of the US Army Corps of Engineers in Portland, the author put forward proposals on the structure design of Bonaventure Locks in the United States. The concrete thin lining structure replaces the traditional concrete gravity structure, and the tunnel-type water delivery system replaces the traditional Concrete corridor water delivery structure. This structure, under the premise of meeting the requirements of high water head ship lock water delivery system, can greatly reduce the ship lock project and thus reduce the project cost. Therefore, this proposal was adopted and sent to the author’s certificate of honor. The ship lock was started in 1987 and is expected to be completed and put into operation in April 1993. In this paper, by introducing Bonaventure lock design, a brief discussion is made on the characteristics of the thin lining structure, the main design methods and the corresponding calculation.
