Driven by a cycloconverter powered synchronous motor, the elevators at Ensdorf coal mine North German shaft in Germany have a programmable high-speed controller that provides the same static and dynamic characteristics as a DC motor. Synchronous motor design is simple, solid and reliable, small maintenance workload, and has a broader range of power than the DC motor and operating range. The hoist is a 6 ropes 5m friction wheel hoist, floor installation, derrick high 48m, weight 800t, Germany is the heaviest of such structures.
