This article reviews the development of the theory and practice of concentrated technology in the 20th century. Starting with the early design of the Doherty concentrator, a comprehensive account of the progress made in the concentration process in laboratory research and in plant production practices is provided. Details the important contributions of Coe and Clevengey, Comings and Kynch in this field, as well as the findings of several scholars in the field of phenomenology for the deposition method. The design methods of several famous thickeners are introduced, and the author’s contributions in this field are discussed in detail. Finally, a few new research and development projects are briefly introduced, such as high-capacity and high-density concentrators, and several new tools for studying and designing thickeners.
