During the American Revolution, the testament of George Calferine, a plantation owner in the South, was an important historical document. By introducing such analytical categories as race, gender and Indian identity, this article explores his views on freedom and property distribution as well as the kinship of Irish immigrants in the 18th century Atlantic world behind this will. In the process of formulating the will, the article points out that Gallepin fully considered the identity of the white Protestants of Anglo-Saxon. While race, gender, and Indian identity are both factors that influence Gallfeld’s testament, he is not strictly a racist or sexist.
