Gordon et al. Conducted a series of longitudinal studies on the seasonal changes of blood lipids in 35- to 59-year-olds and found that total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high density lipoprotein cholesterol Peaks are in winter. There are currently no reports of seasonal changes in blood lipids in the elderly. Given the highest cardiovascular mortality in the elderly, any risk factor that varies with the seasons is of crucial importance to the elderly. The authors studied the seasonal changes of blood lipids in a population of 65-74 years old. Methods A total of 96 volunteers (47 males and 49 females, average age, 69 years) were enrolled in this study. From January 1991 to February 1992 every two months, subjects took a blood lipid test, a total of 7 times. Subjects do not need fasting, take blood from the antecubital vein, without tourniquet pressure. But each time the blood is collected at the same time of the day and the same day of the week. TC, HDL-c and TG (triglycerides) were measured on a Technicon analyzer using standard laboratory methods and LDL-C was determined using the Friedewald method.
