素质教育的宗旨之一就是培养学生的创新能力和创新精神。教师要在英语教学中培养学生的创新精神和创新能力,就得进行创新教育。创新是一个民族进步的灵魂,国民素质的提高、民族素质的提高是学校、家庭、社会对青少年一代进行教育、熏陶和施加综合影响的结果。知识创新能力的培养和复合型人才的培养,需要一支高素质的教师队伍。在新形势下,作为教师要不断提高自身素质,要不断通过自己的创新实践去培养学生的创新精神和实践能力,这是基础教育深化改革和发展的必然趋势,也是实施素质教育对教师的迫切要求。教师要创造性地用好教材,把素质教育渗透到英语教学的全过程,全面提高学生的政治、文化、心理、技能、身体等各种素质,使他们的德、智、体、美得到全面发展。
