吴茱萸始载于《神农本草经》列为中品。性大热、味辛苦,有小毒。温中止痛,止呕。为芸香科(Rutaceae)植物吴茱萸Evodia rutaecarpa(Juss.)Benth。疏毛吴茱萸E.rutaecarpa(juss)Benth.var.bodinieri(Dode)Huang和石虎E.rutaecarpa(juss.)Benth.Var.Officinalis(Dode)Huang的干燥未成熟果实。主产于贵州、广西、四川等地。其性状呈五角状扁球形,或浅裂成梅花状,表面黑褐色或绿褐色、粗糙、有许多突起的点状油点,顶端裂成五瓣,有的则呈五角星状裂缝。基部有结节状宿萼,常有短小果柄,果柄具细茸
