At the end of the 16th century Europeans discovered the Polynesian Islands of Oceania; British Christian missions began to preach on those islands at the end of the 18th century; in 1842, France sent the Governor to the area to become a protectorate, followed by the establishment of schools in the capital , Teaching in French; in 1862, French teaching infiltrated elementary school.
