多年的中专外语教学实践使我们体会到,母语在外语教学过程中起着重要作用,充分认识到这种重要作用对我们的教学实践活动有着深远的意义。语言是思维的物质外壳。学生在学习外语之前和开始学习外语时,他们的思维的物质外壳是母语。因此,如果在外语教学中完全排斥母语的作用,特别是教学伊始便要在学生的头脑中使用外语词汇直接与其代表的事物(或意义)直接建立联系的作法是不切合实际和难以实现的。一则因为中专外语的课时量很少,每周只上三节课,而教学任务却很重,如果就其一个词汇用英文解释的话,既浪费时间,收效也不一定大。二则因为外语思维是长期教学的结果。
