This article describes the details of the inspection of 12 spherical tanks in Nanjing Refinery and their safety assessment by fracture mechanics. According to a re-examination of four spherical tanks that have been put into use for one to two years to repair, it is considered feasible to use the ball in a “permissible” defect.
