A ground-based laser-on-board laser position indicator prototype that combines a laser range finder with an accurate target indicator to enable a forward observer to pinpoint a fast-moving target was first delivered to the unit by Hughes Aircraft Electro-Optical and Data Systems Group. This new device provides troops with accurate indication and ranging capabilities that are not available with existing hand-held area-type indicators.
