The electrochemical properties and microstructures of MlNi 3.5 Co 0.75- x Si x Al 0.2 Mn 0.55 were systematically studied. In order to decrease the cost of electrodes, Co is partially replaced by Si. The alloys display great discharge capability, quick activation, high discharge rate and stable discharge voltage when x =0 1~0 2. X ray and SEM observations indicate that these alloys are made of two phases, LaNi 5 and La 2Ni 7, and the phase La 2Ni 7 is increased with increasing Si content.
