Electrode consumption in the operation of the electric furnace is one of the main factors that affect the total production cost of the electric furnace. Electrode material costs account for about 15 to 30% of the total cost. The main cause of electrode wear is: the interface rupture, stump loss, side oxidation and end erosion. The extent of the impact of these causes varies depending on the design and operation of the electric furnace.
