世界电信展是由国际电信联盟创办的,从1971年开始每4年举办一次,举办地一直在瑞士日内 瓦,对促进电信新技术和新业务推广、增进电信国际合作有很好的示范作用,在世界电信领域一直 备受关注,被誉为“通信业的奥林匹克”。由于举办世界电信展可以为承办地带来巨大商机和丰厚的 利益回报,因此举办城市之间的竞争非常激烈。2004年6月3日,国际电信联盟决定选择中国香港 作为2006年世界电信展的举办地,这是世界电信展首次将举办地移出日内瓦。在激动和兴奋之后, 香港各界都在积极地准备迎接这个盛会。
