20世纪的青岛很辉煌。尤其是20世纪末的10多年中,青岛一下子奉献给了中国几大工业品牌:海尔、青啤、海信、双星、澳柯玛等,初步确立了青岛从品牌企业到品牌经济、再到品牌城市的定位与跨越,创造了在中国城市群中独树一帜的“青岛模式”。当然,20世纪创造的辉煌只属于20世纪,如何承接20世纪的荣耀,在21世纪创造更大、更新、更多的辉煌?拿什么奉献给21世纪?是青岛面临的又一新的抉择和挑战。我们已经注意到,刚刚跨进21世纪的几年间,青岛无论是城市地位、城市知名度,还是城市影响力和实力,都出现了爆发式的提升和增长,特别是刚刚过去的2004年,令人目不暇接的城市荣誉接踵而来:中国十大最具经济活力城市、中国大陆最佳商务城市、中国最佳魅力城市、中国公众最向往的城市,还有海尔以1000亿元突破世界500强入围线、青岛港跃居中国第二大外贸港……还有,青岛要做“全国重点中心城市”、要做“世界知名特色城市”……这些,都是21世纪的青岛奉献给21世纪的中国、21世纪的世界的大礼。迈进2005年,为了让更多的读者了解、认识21世纪的青岛,了解、认识这座城市的胸襟与理想。我们策划采写了这组题为《青岛,拿什么奉献给21世纪》的重点深度报道,力求从全球化的视角与高度,全面地展示这座城市的魅力,这座城市对21世纪的中国和世界的奉献。为了增加力度和高度,我们还邀请了本刊的几位特邀顾问和特约撰稿人参与这组报道,这些全国知名的专家学者的文章,为这组报道增色不少,在此深表谢意。这组报道分上下两期刊出。祝愿21世纪的青岛更精彩。翻开世界经济史会发现,正是制造业书写了工业化和城市化的历史。休斯敦、底特律、都灵、汉堡、汉城等,无一不是靠制造业奠定了世界都市的地位。在世界制造业向中国转移的趋势中,位于黄海岸边的青岛,恰恰在扮演着这样一个角色,并始终以自己的方式演变和推进着城市、区域发展进程,而这种已呈全面隆起和加速之势的进程,正在影响中国乃至世界……
