根据交通部(86)交函计字第149号《关于开展全国港口普查工作的通知》精神,湖南省在交通厅的统一领导下,组织省有关单位和地区(市)交通局及各港口航运有关部门人员共400多人,在全省范围内进行了港口普查。自1986年6月至12月历时7个月,共普查年吞吐量1万吨以上的港口216个,基本摸清了本省港口的现况和存在的问题,为今后湖南省的港口规划和建设,提供了基本资料。
