PMP(Portable MultimediaPlayer)——便携式多媒体播放器,是一种利用MPEG-4编解码方式,以播放视频图像为主的消费产品,又简称MP4。记得一年前,我到深圳采访,不止一家中小企业老板信心十足地向我表示要上PMP,他们的想法很简单:给苹果电脑带来惊人利润的iPod只不过是个MP3,我要搞个MP4不更能一举成功。可是一年来的市场证明,iPod依然火爆,PMP叫好不叫座。其原因何在? 这里要先澄清一个概念,MP4是基于MPEG-4编解码标准,但MP3并不是用MPEG-3,而是用MPEG-1Layer3(MPEG-3的第三层声音)方式。

However, the market over the past year proved that the iPod is still hot, PMP is not called. The reason why? Here to clarify a concept, MP4 is based on MPEG-4 codec standard, but MP3 is not using MPEG-3, but with MPEG-1Layer3 (MPEG-3 third-layer sound) approach.
