包头市位于自治区西部,东西长145km,南北宽约140km,辖6县区,全市总面积9991km~2,其中山前平原面积2790km~2,山区和后山丘陵区面积7201km~2.本市主要水土流失区,水土流失面积7039km~2,占全市总面积的70%.全市共治理水土流失面积374.3km~2,占水土流失面积的5%,其中:水平梯田0.65万hm~2;沟坝地0.48万hm~2;水保林36.92万hm~2;种草0.15万hm~2,同时还兴建了一批小型水上保持工程.“八五”期间我市水保战线上的广大群众开拓进取、励精图治、顽强拼搏,水土保持工作又有新的突破,全市共完成水土流失治理面积198.62km~2,占全市累计治理面积的53%,其中水平梯田0.38万
