Both perfluoroalkyl iodides and bromides reacted with sodium dithionite to form thecorresponding sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates in good yields,but under similar conditionsan analogous transformation did not take place with perfluoroalkyl chlorides.It is reportedin this paper that some compounds of the type RCCIa underwent sulfinatodechlorinationreaction to give sodium α,α-dichloropolyfluoroalkanesulfinates(RCCl_2SO_2Na)in good yieldsunder mild conditions.
