He devoted his life to the reformation of operas in Western Europe and succeeded in creating “musicals” (musical theater) with many new forms of expression. His first successful play was “Réunion” premiered in Dresden in 1842. The story of “Li Enji”, written by Wagner himself, is based on the history of the struggle of the Roman people against feudal oppression in the mid-14th century. Humanist Li Enji led the masses against aristocratic atrocities. At first, he succeeded, subdued the aristocracy, then defeated and lost his people’s hearts. Eventually, he was plagued by the public and when he was praying in the temple, he was released by the masses
