After the Incident of September 18, 1931, Japan controlled the three northeastern provinces of China. The taste-savvy Japanese militarists began to make continual incidents in China in an attempt to further launch the war and create opportunities for more benefits. On September 3, 1936, a small Chinese town in the border town of Beihai (now Guangxi) occurred in which an incident of Chinese soldiers’ assault on Japanese spies was staged. This matter is called “September 3” incident, also known as “North Sea incident.” After the incident broke out, the Japanese naval vessel Chen Bing’s South China Sea was overbearing. The Chinese side started intense diplomatic negotiations and avoided any further escalation.
