沙曼作品有着鲜明的离散文学特征,多描写印度裔移民家庭生活,常表现个体在多元文化撞击下的孤独、边缘、价值错置与身份焦虑。他的作品中的移民有着不可挣脱的牢笼,他们与母国有着不能割舍的记忆和不可弥合的价值裂痕,在新国度有着宿命般不可融合的孤寂与疏离,真正的家园永久丧失,精神再无法归乡。拉什曼短篇小说新作《你快乐吗?》发表于二〇一七年四月《纽约客》,作家再次述说了一个印度家庭的移民记忆。
His works have distinct discrete literary features and they mostly describe the family life of Indian immigrants. They often show individual loneliness, marginalization, value misalignment and identity anxiety under the impact of multiculturalism. Immigrants in his works have an indestructible prison. They have inseparable memories and irreparable values with their home countries. They have the loneliness and estrangement of fate in the new kingdom. Their true homeland will be permanently lost and their spirit will not be able to return township. Published in New Yorker in April 2017, the writer again described the memory of an Indian family’s immigrants.
