The French National Institute of Oceanography is designing a semi-automatic system for mining metal nodules scattered on the seafloor. They plan to use a common diving robot that is cabled to the ship to collect the nodules and pass it on to a platform positioned 200 meters above the sea floor with a 5000-meter-long duct.
