南京保卫战在中国抗日战争正面战场诸战役中,规模属于中等,但因其目标为保卫首都,体现与磨炼了抗战精神,并与震惊世界的南京大屠杀紧密关联,因此在抗日战争历史上,有着重要地位与影响。南京保卫战中的守城官兵,在战斗中勇敢拼搏,浴血奋战,体现与磨炼了导致抗日战争最后胜利的抗战精神。南京保卫战在背景、时空、原因、人数等多方面,与南京大屠杀有着多重关联,给予南京大屠杀以重要影响,从而也加重了它在历史天平上的份量。
