本文针对黎族历史研究中存在的某些有分歧的问题 ,发表如下看法 :传说中的“穿胸民” ,并非“胸前穿孔”的“异人” ,而主要是指穿着由中央贯头而下的“贯头衣”与“桶裙”的黎族先民 ;对学术界存在的自西汉元帝罢弃珠崖郡至梁大同年间海南为中央王朝的势力所不及之地的一种说法提出异议 ,认为东汉一朝的势力即曾及于海南之地及其所属黎族先民 ;对从宋代迄今沿袭改动苏轼诗句“云安市无井”为“万安无市井”的失误 ,加以澄清 ;认为历史上黎族分布地要较今日更广 ,宋代以前内地的雷、廉诸州也曾是黎族重要居住地 ;不同意前人对元、明黎族土官持全面否定的观点 ,认为应该肯定黎族土官的历史作用 ;揭示佛教是最早传入黎区的外来宗教 ,并曾出现过黎族“慕佛相好”的历史现象
