China United Coalbed Methane Co., Ltd. and the United States Arco, Philippe Oil Company signed a contract in Beijing on June 29 and 30, respectively, to jointly develop the Hedong CBM resources in Shanxi Province. In order to speed up the development of the coalbed methane industry, in March 1996, the Coal Division, the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources and the China National Petroleum Corporation jointly organized the establishment of China United Coalbed Methane Co., Ltd. and was awarded the cooperation of the State Council for foreign cooperation.
