新加坡内阁资政李光耀8月16日预言,东亚若能避免冲突,可在40年内支配世界经济。他说,尽管发生亚洲金融危机,但东亚40年快速增长的基本因素没变。 李光耀在关于“东亚在21世纪的地位”演讲中表示,中国如果继续倾全力于教育和经济发展,将会在2050年成为世界第二大贸易国。此外,他预计,到2040年,中国和日本的综合国内生产总值将超过美国的国内总产值。
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew predicted on August 16 that East Asia could dominate the world economy within 40 years if it avoided any possible conflict. He said despite the Asian financial crisis, the basic factor of 40 years of rapid growth in East Asia has not changed. In his speech on “the status of East Asia in the 21st century,” Lee Kuan Yew said that if China continues its all-out efforts in education and economic development, it will become the world’s second largest trading nation in 2050. In addition, he predicts that by 2040, the combined GDP of China and Japan will exceed the U.S. gross domestic product.
