研发概况以F-14、F-15、F-16和F/A-18为代表的第三代战斗机在上世纪70年代中后期服役后,美国开始着手发展第四代战斗机。大家知道,二战后研制的战斗机起飞重量一代比一代大,原因就是为了容纳更多的新技术设备,但大量新技术的运用无疑会增加研制的风险,而且大量新技术或新设备也需要很多的基础论证工作,所以新一代战斗机的研制周期在不断增加。
