广美毕业那年,曹新林曾以《湖南农民》交卷,不但封存了他的湖广岁月,而且封存了他的南方印象,此后,对于他跨长江而至黄河,选择北方农民作为他画中形象的一生根据地的做法,坊间有过种种猜想,大抵一致的说法是他深受当时《红旗谱》中农民形象塑造的影响,或者更准确地说,他深为英雄而丰富的中国农民的品格德行所吸引。这种灵魂的感召是每位真正的艺术家一生都至少要经历一次的。“这一次”之于曹新林,其结果是,水土大换。
