玉米铁甲虫是南宁地区玉米产区的毁灭性害虫,每年发生35—40万亩,占玉米种植面积的30％左右,因该虫为害每年损失粮食250万公斤以上,多达550万公斤,是少数民族山区发展粮食生产的一大障碍。 自从六十年代初期开始对生产造成威胁以后,曾组织全区联防,控制了为害,八十年代初开始回升,并逐年扩大,受害程度逐年严重,其主要因素:(1)有良好的气候条件和优越的生态环境;(2)虫源数量不断积累,越冬后虫源数量多,是当年发生严重的主要原因;
