2008年11月17日,在司徒雷登离世将近半个世纪之后,他的骨灰终于回归,静静地安放在杭州安贤陵园内,墓碑上镌刻着:司徒雷登,1876-1962,燕京大学首任校长。毛泽东的一篇《别了,司徒雷登》,让人们永久地记住了“司徒雷登”这个名字。但许多人却并不知道,这位曾任燕京大学首任校长和美国驻华大使的美国佬,还是个生于杭州、长于杭州,会说杭州话,爱吃杭帮菜的杭州佬。他的浓浓的杭州情结和那些传奇色彩述说着他是“一个中国人更多于是一个美国人”的人,一个热爱中国及中华文化、热爱杭州及西湖的人,一个对中国现代教育和中美文化交流作出过贡献的人。
On November 17, 2008, almost half a century after Studen’s death, his ashes finally returned to the peaceful cemetery of Hangzhou. Inscribed on the tombstones were Stuart Leigh, 1876-1962, the first president of Yanjing University . Mao Zedong’s “Farewell, Stuart,” so that people permanently remember the “Stuart Leighton,” the name. But many people did not know that the Yankee Yankees former president and the U.S. ambassador to China were Yankees, or Hangzhou guys who grew up in Hangzhou, grew up in Hangzhou, would speak Hangzhou, and would love Hangzhong. His thick Hangzhou complex and those legendary fantasies tell him that he is “a Chinese more then an American,” a man who loves China and Chinese culture, loves Hangzhou and the West Lake, and is a teacher of modern Chinese education And China-US cultural exchanges have made contributions to people.
