Volume 283, Issue 6299, 1981, p. 1074, Roger Williams article: Recent articles published in Kashmir have rekindled interest in viral hepatitis during pregnancy. This is a prospective study conducted during a demonstration of the spread of non-A, non-B hepatitis by water. The results showed that the incidence of pregnant women (17%) was 8 times that of other non-pregnant women. Hepatitis is more common in the middle and end of pregnancy, at 19%, compared with only 9% of those with hepatitis during the first trimester of pregnancy. Fulminant hepatic failure during pregnancy is also more common (22%) compared with 3% for men and not among non-pregnant women with hepatitis.
