Two days from November 29 to November 30, 2002, more than 300 Chinese comics consummate artists and crosstalk researchers gathered together to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Mr. Hou Baolin, the grand master of comic dialogue. Compared to the monument built by their predecessors, many people feel frustrated with the status quo. The memorial will become a forum for the future of comic dialogue. One of the key issues is why comic dialogues have been neglected by the audience in recent years because of the loss of the largest tradition - satire. Ironically, it is the easiest way to create a “burden” of irony about backward, ignorant, and even reactionary people and things. But it is a pity that there has not been a real irony of cross-talk over the years (“China Youth Daily” Chen Kui-shu reports).
