李家峡水电站位于青海省东南部,距上游龙羊峡水电站约为108.6km,是黄河上游重点工程之一.坝址区两岸山势陡峻,河谷狭窄,枯水期水面宽约30~50m.河床复盖层一般厚为3~9m,坝基基岩主要为前震旦系黑云母更长质带状混合岩和黑云母角闪斜长片岩.由于龙羊峡水电站已建成蓄水,且调节库容较大,控制了刘家峡以上约为2/3的来水量,因而李家峡水量稳定,洪水流量和泥沙含量都相对较小,使得李家峡工程施工时导截流方便,有利于降低造价,加速施工进度.
