柳直荀,1898年11月3日出生于湖南省长沙县方塘冲一个书香门第。父亲柳大谧,为人正直,痛恨清政府的腐败,深受康梁变法的影响,后留学日本,同黄兴、孙中山有过来往。他给儿子取名直荀,就是取荀子“蓬生麻木,不扶而直”之意。期望儿子不随俗浮沉,不同流合污。 柳直荀14岁时,考入长沙广益中学。他寄居在与其父交谊很深的杨怀中家里。杨家是英才荟萃之地,毛泽东、蔡和森、陈昌、何叔衡等常聚在这里。他们在杨先生的启示下,畅谈治学之道,纵论天下大事,探讨救国救民的道理。柳直荀从中受到教育,汲取了力
