1937年 9月,继北方三大学联合内迁之后,上海复旦大学与大夏大学亦奉教育部令,组成复旦大夏联合大学内迁,同年末抵达贵阳和重庆。1938年春,复旦大夏联大解体,复旦遂选定重庆北碚嘉陵江北岸下坝建校。自此至 1946年5月,整整8年,复旦于斯揽士育才,弦歌不缀,演绎了许多文坛韵事。尤其是老舍,结缘复旦更深。 1938年秋,伍蠡甫在复旦大学文学院时,为了丰畜学生文学素养,拓展学生视野,提高学校声誉,文学院决定开设文学讲座,邀聘社会贤达、文坛名宿出任讲席,并向校长开具了第一张文学讲座导师名单。
