2,6-Xylenol is a kind of engineering plastic polyphenylene oxide (PPO) monomer, which is formed by the reaction of phenol and methanol at high temperature in the presence of a catalyst. In the synthesis process, depending on the catalyst used, different methyl substitution products were obtained.
