一九八一年五月,中国书协成立,同年十二月二十三日,中国书协召开常务理事会,决定成立《中国书法》编委会,启功先生,陈叔亮先生分别任正副主编,王景芬先生为编辑部主任。自此三十余年来,《中国书法》不仅刊登了大量古代名碑法帖、历代书家研究文章,并与当代书法结下了不解之缘:它记录了近三十年书坛发生的一切重大事件,介绍了当今数代代表性书家,刊载了数以千计涉及书法美学、史学及书法本体等多方面的论文、评论,尽管其间因数次主持者的更迭,质量上有所起伏,但它一直以当代中国书法界最具权威的国家级核心期刊,见证了三十年来中国书法发展的轨迹,在审美及舆论上主导着当代书坛大的走向,为整个书法界连续数十年提供了及其丰富的文化
