It has long been known that self-lubricating, wear resistant composites made from sintered copper powder, stainless steel powder or other metal powders impregnated with a liquid lubricant and sintered bodies are widely used to make oil free bearings. If impregnating the sintered body with a solid lubricant or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) instead of a liquid oil, the above-mentioned composite material is expected to have further improved load bearing capacity and heat resistance.
