定安县雷鸣镇盲人院建于1959年,是全省唯一的一间盲人院,座落在镇政府所在地的北面。院里盲人现在居住的是钢筋水泥结构平顶的新房子,有一口手摇泵井,现居住着6对盲人夫妇,子女20人。院内盲人子女用竹木搭的棚架挂着长豆一串串,各种各样的瓜吊在棚架下,旁边种的菜品种多样,孩子们在瓜棚豆架下玩,各种花草互相辉映。好一幅宜人的田园生活景象。
