Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are derived from the interstitial cells of Cajal, and are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract[1].KIT proto-oncogene,receptor tyrosine kinase (KIT), and platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA) gene mutations are found in approximately 85%-90% cases of GIST, and are thought to play a role in itsdevelopment[2-3].
