Objective To investigate the effect of preventive drinking natural mineral water on blood lipids in experimental hyperlipidemic rats. Methods Twenty-eight female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats of 5 weeks age were fasted for 12 hours. The blood samples were collected for internal metabolism and the serum cholesterol (TC) was measured. The levels of TC were randomly divided into high fat model group and high fat model group. Group of 14. At the same time, the experimental group of high-fat model was free to drink some natural mineral water while the control group of high-fat model was free to drink tap water. After drinking natural mineral water for 30 days and 40 days respectively, Blood was drawn and the levels of serum cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and high density lipoprotein (HDL-C) were measured by Autolab 1.0 automatic biochemical analyzer. Results After 30 days of drinking natural mineral water, TG levels in serum of rats in high-fat model group were significantly lower than those in control group (P <0.05), but there was no significant difference between TC and HDL-C Compared with the control group, TG level in the experimental group of high-fat model rats was significantly lower than that in the control group (P <0.01), and statistical analysis showed that the natural mineral water did not lower the level of TC and raise the level of HDL-C However, the levels of TC in female rats tended to decrease and the level of HDL-C tended to increase after drinking the natural mineral water, while the TC levels in the female rats in the tap water group tended to increase compared with those on the 30th day. Conclusion Some natural mineral water has the tendency to improve the blood lipid in experimental female hyperlipidemic rats.
