In May 1987, Gary Hart, a candidate for presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of the United Kingdom, withdrew from the campaign for disclosing his peach news, which shocked the United States and the ruling and opposition parties and caused a controversy in the press. The debate involved issues such as the rights of the media, their responsibilities and professional ethics, the authenticity of news and so on. Compiled here is a recent commentary on the Columbia Journalism Review in the United States, analyzing the role of the press in the Hart incident and reflecting the views of some people in the American press.
