The technique of extracting independent cross-sections of first-generation products from gamma-radioactivity measurements of radioactive products or their progeny-decaying progenitors was studied. It is suitable for the determination of isotope independent cross-sections in beam-fast chemical elemental separation samples. The mercury isotope distribution measured after the 600 MeV 18 O bombardment of a thick natural lead target was measured using this technique.
