Sister Carrie is a masterpiece of Theodore Dreiser, a naturalist writer in the 20th century in the United States. The novel, based on the United States of the heyday of capitalism in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, mainly describes Caroline, a rural girl, who, in the metropolitan Chicago, pursues the twists and turns of material and happiness and eventually grows into a celebrity. In this article, from the perspective of feminism, she begins with Carrie’s initial self-formation, self-destructiveness and self-rebuilding. She carefully interprets the difficult journey Carrie inherits from attachment to independence and feels the awakening of female consciousness from embryo to awakening.
