Zone melting is a partial melting effect used to remove impurities in the purification of metals and organic matter in the early 1950s. 1957 P.S. Harris introduced this concept to the geologic field to explain the slow material differentiation, the mechanism of magmatic ascent, and the genesis of potassium-rich basaltic magmas. Since 1959, some geochemical workers in the Soviet Union have used regional melt experiments of chondrites and silicate phases to demonstrate the mechanism of slow differentiation and formation of the earth’s shell. In 1970, he published the “Physical-Chemical Model of Element Separation in the Process of Subsoil Material Differentiation”
