During the chronic infection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), CD8 + T cells in the infected patient highly express PD-1 and can cause cellular immune dysfunction in infected persons. Of cell proliferation, cytokine secretion and cytotoxic function will also be affected. In addition, HIV-specific CD4 ~ + T cells and B cells can also be negatively regulated by the PD-1 pathway. Inhibition of the PD-1 pathway enhances virus-specific immunity and is therefore considered a potential therapeutic target for HIV infection. This review summarizes the research progress of PD-1 immunoregulatory signaling pathway in HIV infection and its potential application as a potential immunotherapy target for HIV infection.
