九疑山国家森林公园位于宁远县南端,距县城30公里,属南岭山脉,为中亚热带季风湿润气候区。 九疑山乃天下名山,《史记·五帝本纪》记载:“舜南巡狩,崩于苍梧之野,葬于江南九疑。”中华民族始祖舜帝就葬于九疑山,现在公园建有舜帝陵,并于2000年举行了盛况空前的祭舜典礼。从2001年开始,公园于每年9月举办舜文化旅游节。 1992年7月,九疑山国家森林公园经林业部批准成立,
